Construction (Management and Design) Regulations are intended to ensure that health and safety issues are considered during the development of a project. The Regulations were introduced in 1994 and revised in 2007 and 2015. The latest revision, CDM 2015, came into effect on 6th April 2015 and now applies to projects not covered by the previous editions.

Health and Safety is an important part of the construction industry and needs to be carried out effectively. A Principal Designer plays a crucial role in influencing how risks to health and safety are managed throughout a project. Design decisions made by the Principal Designer during the pre-construction phase will have a significant influence in making sure that the project is delivered in a way that secures the health and safety of all relevant parties affected by the project.
